Shocker of the week: another underutilized Koreatown property is slated for redevelopment.
Plans were filed late last year for a new residential-retail complex on a roughly half-acre property at 3100 West Eighth Street. The proposed development would consist of a seven-story structure, featuring 100 residential units above ground-floor commercial space. A density bonus requested by the developer indicates that at least some of the units would be reserved as affordable housing.
The project, which would replace a two-story commercial building, is located within walking distance several large-scale residential developments. North on Berendo Street, developer Century West Partners is midway through construction on the second phase of their K2LA apartment complex. West along Eighth Street, a proposed 27-story residential tower lingers in development hell, with no clear path out.

It's exciting to see this area continue to fill-in. Whatever happened to that proposed development from the Archeon Group at the corner of James M Wood and Vermont (http://www.archeongroup.com/vermont-jameswood)? Have you heard any updates on that project?
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard anything about it since the plans were filed. Honestly, it always seem liked a long shot given the scale of the proposal versus the location.
DeleteThey are really building up K-Town like crazy and just when I think I got a good grasp on how large it is, it still seems to keep growing. My question is, will it ever blend in with downtown la from Wilshire starting west of the 110?
ReplyDeleteThere will definitely be a continuous build out along Wilshire at some point. Hard to say with the rest of the area, though. Koreatown, Echo Park, Central City West, and Westlake are getting lots of investment. Pico Union, less so.
